AzRC member wins Governor’s Volunteer Service Award

The Arizona Governor's Office of Youth, Faith and Family hosted its 20th Annual Governor's Volunteer Service Awards last month. These awards “honor exemplary individual and organizational volunteer efforts that have strengthened communities and improved the quality of life for Arizonans.”

At the awards ceremony, Elaine Birks-Mitchell was honored with the Inspired Adult Leadership award for her work at The Undie Chest, a nonprofit organization that uses “the donation of underwear to restore dignity back to families in need” here in Arizona.

Elaine is also the CEO and Chief Sustainability Officer of The Bra Recyclers, Executive Director of the nonprofit The Undie Chest, and an active member of the Arizona Recycling Coalition.

Elaine couldn’t have been more thrilled to receive the award and to meet other impactful and inspired Arizonans.

“For me, it’s about saying, you know, I want to do something kind of selfless,” Elaine said. “It’s about others in the community. It’s about saying, ‘I’m going to make a conscious decision to invest in my own community and then the people in that community.”
